Waves (RAC Mix)

As we know, I have an incredible respect for RAC and his melodious mixes and whenever I see that he has released one of his versions of an already good song, it's wise to prepare for the best. His flair on Miguel's "Waves" capitalizes on every existing strength of the original and delivers an astonishingly contagious beat, with his signature upbeat and bubbly exuberance. I always wonder what he'll do next, but for now this one is more than enough to keep me happy for awhile. Good stuff.

Ridin Round

Oh shit. This is real nice. One of those immediate love stories with a song where you know you're going to be obsessed for awhile and may or may not need to learn all the words and it'll probably be something that you will always appreciate. I always have a lot of respect for women who take on the hip hop industry and bring their own flair (can I say swag here?) into the game. Mind you, Kali Uchis is just 22 (my age, shit--what am I doing with my life again?) and she's absolutely slaying. First off all, with a title like "Ridin Round" you just can't go wrong.. then, when you get into the actual lyrics there's some fire in there that I just love... "I know I'm some shit and I'm cool with it" // "Fuck me over, I'll fuck you worse then take off to Japan".. uh, YES. Some people might call these kind of lyrics "aggressive" and I would have to disagree with them by countering that having confidence is just empowering.. try it. So, despite my post yesterday that denounced the original of songs after hearing a dope remix, I knew with this song that I needed to hear the original even though I heard the remix by oshi first. And, not surprisingly, the original was equally as good, just had some slower vibes. Some nice tracks right here.

Also, FYI, Kali is a total babe of course:

Come Down

California Native Brandon Paak Anderson has been in the music world for quite sometime, but I have just found him with his recently released album Malibu. He fuses elements of hip-hop, r&b, and jazz together and it's absolutely fascinating--creating a unique and memorable sound along the way. My favorite track of the album is without a doubt "Come Down," and I don't know much about music technically speaking, but I know this sounds good. Enjoy!

Another Day In Paradise

Music that actually makes you feel good is pretty exceptional and when they bring forth happiness makes it all the better. Such is the case with "Another Day In Paradise" by Quinn XCII thanks to an ideal combination of chill lyrics, an awesome beat, and overall good vibes.

Best words:
"75 degrees and a dope sound, all you need to live fine"
"And I be runnin' 'cuz I figured out the more I slow down the less I get out"

***Bonus track: This more recent track by Quinn XCII just brings me back to saying how relatable his lyrics are. Dope instrumentals as well.

I Own It

This is definitely one of the songs that was love at first listen. Female rapper? (Angel Haze kills it)... A little aggressive with the lyrics? Check and check- that's all I need. Tbh, there's no denying the catchy chorus and beat. I especially love the line "content with my wrongness" because I feel the exact same way. See what you think:

Mt. Olympus

This is one of the more aggressive rap songs I've heard recently but damn, Big K.R.I.T. does not fail to deliver. This song is an impressive flurry of words with witticisms and commentary on the expectations people have for rappers. Fast forward to around 2:20 and prepare to be blown away by the extremely rapid pace of Big K.R.I.T.'s rhymes, who apparently does not care what you think of his work at all.

P.S. Flashback to when I heard first Big K.R.I.T. back in 2010 when he rapped over a brilliant sample of Adele's "Hometown Glory."

Wassup

In case you forgot about Timbaland's classic "Indian Flute" just like me and probably the rest of the population, this song is a brilliant reminder of how magnificent it was, but with better verses. So yeah, take a listen for yourself and enjoy, because I can't imagine someone not liking this track.

Mrs. Vandebilt Told Me

I wish I could explain where this came from (hence the UFO album artwork?) or why I like it so much, but I can't totally justify it. All I know is that this rarely successful collab of acoustics + rap is super duper perfect for your Friday afternoon.

LSD Remixed

Nothing but good vibes from ProbCause and Chance The Rapper in this song. A good sample clearly works wonders on any track and The Hood Internet adds their always beneficial flair here.

Lanes

I have no idea where this is coming from, but if "Take On Me" by A-ha is involved in a sample, count me in. Big Boi has taken to mixing his own tracks over various vintage tracks to create a very high energy blend. Mind you, the original "Lines," which features Phantogram, was already a pretty awesome collaboration. Check it:

Also, Big Boi released another mashup track "Part Time Hater" just a few hours ago:

Moment

If you've been following this blog and see this post you're probably asking yourself where the hell this is coming from. Well, yes, I (highly) enjoy rap. And yes, I know, the last solo stuff Lil Wayne released was pretty questionable... but this song goes back to classic Weezy (who do I think I am?? JK I know all the words to This is the Carter). Not gonna lie I wasn't expecting him to release something that goes back to his old style so much after his rap + rock experimental stint. Let's just say I've listened to this song an embarrassing amount of times since I saw it came out. This leaves me anticipating for more clever ass rhymes from one of the game's greatest.

Fancy

Excuse the long hiatus in posting, I was busy belligerently catching plastic beads in New Orleans and have been recovering ever since. Anyways, if you haven't already heard Iggy Azalea's Fancy featuring Charli XCX, she just released the accompanying video, which is fabulous and highly reminiscent of the classic 90's girl movie we all know and love, Clueless. The vibes of the movie perfectly match the modern take on being, ahem, fancy AF. Roll with the homies to this catchy beat:

Iggy Azalea - Fancy feat. Charli XCX

"So, okay, I don't want to be a traitor to my generation and all but I don't get how guys dress today. I mean, come on, it looks like they just fell out of bed and put on some baggy pants and take their greasy hair (eww!) and cover it up with a backwards cap and like we're expected to swoon? I don't think so."

Thanks, Cher, for reminding me that things are pretty much the same today... That was way harsh.
