Be Right There

This is a few months old, but I don't really care because I'm still totally into it. As we know, Diplo tends to straight up slay and this track is no exception. He's integrated house sounds of today with some super 90's synths (I'm reminded of "Be My Lover" by La Bouche, a classic of course) and killer vocals. Take 4 minutes of your day to dance to this contagious beat!!!!

Pretty With Her Eyes Low

I think the Furby (?) album artwork speaks a lot about the weirdness of this song. Not only are they creepy and off-putting af (I had one that never shut up) but they had the biggest eyes of any of my toys that seemed to stare you down. I guess they were the inspiration for the title, which takes a different direction than any Hasbro toy. (I can hasbro? Ok, I'll stop).. Anyways, I still never really know how to classify Diplo other than a mastermind of electronic mystery, but damn do I enjoy his work. (Also this collab with Grandtheft, kudos to him too). I mean really, how can you react negatively to that drop that hits at 1:30? I can't explain it, but it just works.

Boy Oh Boy Remixed

I don't know about you, but Missy "Misdemeanor" Elliott brings back some serious good memories for me--mostly the fly as fuck Adidas tracksuits and her album Under Construction (the most repeated CD in our house when it was released, thanks to my sister), from which the masterpiece "Work It" hailed. Apparently 2002 was the mere beginning for "Work It," because here it has been transformed into something incredibly different thanks to our friend Diplo. This song could be seen as incredibly annoying if you're not in the mood to party, but I enjoy it nonetheless.

Freak

What song title could possibly be more appropriate to have a freaky Friday? I think the collaboration of players here makes it clear that this song is evident greatness. The combination of Diplo's bump-tastic beats and Steve Aoki's brilliant, yet uniquely eccentric electronica really speaks for itself. Check it:

Hero

In a quick 2 minutes and 45 seconds, this cool collaboration between artists brings some slowed down doo-wop ish sample to life. It's not much, but its carefree vibes are perfect for releasing any tension whatsoever, especially as it builds up with guitar and slows back down. I'm not even sure how to classify this song but I do wish it was longer and hope for more collabs like this in the future!

Drunk In Love Remixed

I didn't really think it was possible for this fabulous song to get any better, but Kanye West's added verse to Beyoncé's Drunk In Love gives it something extra special. The instrumentals changed from the original into something more string-based and higher pitched, giving it some more tension in every good way. Noted: the Flashing Lights cameo is pretty awesome. Let's just say that if I don't achieve any of my academic goals by the end of this week I know I will at least have Kanye's verse down pat... I don't know the way you do it but you do it to me though.

Diplo also released his rendition of the already amazing song this weekend. Obviously this is Diplo, so this one is more "trap" oriented and electronic reliant. I don't think I could ever dislike any version of the tune so check it out.

Also here is a lullaby-like remix by Hunt for the Breeze, which takes the song into a very light and airy vibe that I really enjoy.

And just to point out the obvious, here is a survival guide to girls who are not Beyoncé (aka me unfortunately):
