Something About Us Covered + Remixed

First, Owl Eyes released an amazing cover of Daft Punk's "Something About Us." Then Chores decided to put a spectacular spin on it. This edit oozes an appropriate amount of funk and is a sure way to have a terrific Tuesday.

Daft Punk + Jay Z... yes that's for real. This song is rumored to have originally been a part of the Tron soundtrack from 2010, which makes sense once you listen to Jay Z's lyrics. I still can't decide quite how I feel about this song... it's a definite reflection on today's reliance on technology (guilty) and for that it is most certainly a work of art. I don't know, I mean, I don't hate it... still trying to grapple this one, which to me, is a good thing. Listen for yourself here:

Gust of Wind

If you thought you've heard the end of Pharrell and Daft Punk, think again. The swaying tune of Gust of Wind brings as much funk as expected and leaves me anticipating the remainder of Pharrell's album G I R L, which I have yet to listen to but was released March 3. (I first heard the song before the album was released but was unable to find a link to share!) The brief guitar riffs brought to you by Daft Punk are fairly reminiscent of their previous work together and makes me wonder if we will ever get lucky (ha) to hear any more of their collaborations! Doin' It Right

After they silently accepted 5 Grammy's at this year's awards ceremony a few days ago, I feel like it is only appropriate that this first post be dedicated to doin' it right- Daft Punk style. I was in awe of their performance with Pharrell and Stevie Wonder, which charmed the audience into the groove as they danced giddily to the funk throughout the aisles. Inspired by their performance, I did some deeper research on the mysterious French duo (including googling what they actually looked like beneath the helmets) and found this awesome interview that was featured on NPR this summer. If you have the time, I would suggest you listen to the whole thing because it was really quite intriguing to hear the two speak about their influences. To me they represent what music should really be about... just the music itself. Of course musicians are flooded with personality and that's what helps make them unique, but obviously these days, fame has played a serious role in stripping innocence away and altering people for the worse. Daft Punk's helmets may seem superfluous; however, I think they can serve as a humbling reminder to enjoy music for what it is without really questioning where or who it comes from.
