Catching Up: Coldplay Remixes

I hate to be one of those cliche girls, but Coldplay honestly is one of my favorite groups of all time. They cut me deep. So naturally, since I dig the originals of their songs, I will probably like most of the remixes of them.

There were a lot of remixes of the already phenomenal "A Sky Full Of Stars," but I think something that was already so electronically based might be more difficult to play up and a lot of them I didn't really enjoy. Sultan + Ned Shepard's attempt transformed the song into a bit of a cheesy house jam that I felt didn't really work. It's hard to spin off from Avicii, I guess. On the other hand, I really must applaud Instant Party! for his baller remix of this track. For a song that I was convinced couldn't get any better, he really does give it that extra kick that it could use (ahem, BASS). I absolutely love when something good graduates to something even better and he does that in perfecting this track.

Continuing with their latest album, Ghost Stories, comes the mystical remix of "Magic" by AlunaGeorge to which I am strangely drawn. It's kind of funky because it does feel like there are a lot of random things going on in this remix. However, I think it does work considering that she pretty much stripped Chris Martin's vocals from the original and did whatever she wanted with them. This remix evolves as it progresses and I really enjoy that aspect of it.

Here we might find ourselves in "Trouble" (hehe) in going back to Coldplay's debut album, Parachutes. I love a good Royal Refix, and this one does not disappoint in the slightest.

Katching Up With Kygo

As aforementioned, Kygo has an ability to remix songs without taking anything away from them and adding his signature "tropical house" sound to create absolute dreams of tracks. I am hoping to see him in Chicago in October with Thomas Jack, which would just be the epitome of chill as fuck (kind of kidding, but not really..). Anyways, here are some of his latest, as he makes The Weeknd sound even sexier than normal (who knew that was possible) and Coldplay's "Midnight" even more mystic.

Oh my... I don't think anythings could possibly make me happier than a collaboration between Coldplay and Avicii. This is absolutely fabulous and uplifting in the classic Coldplay way. Going to be listening to this one for awhile considering how it leaves me in a state of bliss.

Midnight Remixed

Wow, yes. Tiësto brings some trancelike magic to one of Coldplay's latest, "Midnight." I feel like he's one of the few that can work with material so mainstream as Coldplay and handle it so well (think back to the Paradise remix). This reverts back to the more calming style of house.. crazy right.. but it definitely works and is totally soothing in way that you never thought possible. After all, it's still Coldplay.

Magic

The latest from Coldplay's Ghost Stories album due out May 19th (with only 9 tracks.. sadface) is the enchanting "Magic." This is in a totally different style than the other song "Midnight"  that they released a few weeks ago and reverts back to the classic Coldplay style. I'm looking forward to hearing more like this from Ghost Stories-- the cheery vibes are perfect for a slow and sunny day like today.

So I just checked my email only to receive news that one of my favorite bands of all time, Coldplay, has released a new video.. ahem, aka a new single. Mylo Xyloto was released all the way back in 2011, so yeah, it's safe to say that I've been anticipating new work from them for awhile. This song takes on a more modern feeling Coldplay, with more electronic elements. Chris Martin's voice takes on a more whispery tone, resembling that of Bon Iver. The song itself feels almost like a dream sequence and it really makes me curious as to what else they are going to release. Based on their previous albums, I know that this is only one piece to a magnificent puzzle! Listen below with some trippy visuals:
